The right domain for your company

Posted by Josh on August 27th, 2006 in Domain Names, Opinion | 2 Comments

What is the right domain for your company? If you can find your company name in a .com, I would get that, though it may not be the best domain to promote your site in advertising campaigns.

If you have a long company name, like say: “thisisareallylongcompanyname.com”. How about “longname.com”. Well, really, it isn’t that long as it said in the name, though it is much shorter and easier to remember.

Another thing that I know companys do is use their slogan in domains and promote that. I think that is a good way, becuase slogans are made to be remembered, and just adding a .com to that wouldn’t be that hard. Common names that are maybe products that the company makes (like bike) or just really common names that is related to what the company offer, are other names that companys like getting. This can really increase their sales. Like is someone goes to bike.com, they maybe looking for a bike to buy.

Another thing is that domains like that could get high rankings in search engines. Just a few things that you may want to remember when looking for a domain, especially for a small business.

Choosing a Good Domain Name

Posted by Simon on August 26th, 2006 in Domain Names, Links | No Comments

A pretty good article from Stylegala.com about choosing the right domain name.

Domains are hot again. After the bubble burst in the 90’s, no one ever thought that anyone would pay a 5 years salary for a domain name again. Think again. iFly.com was recently sold for $65.000. Thats not a wild sum, but it’s not a wild domain either. I did read somewhere that creditcards.com was sold for $2.750.000 last year. Someone did a pretty good investment there. I browsed ebay and found that ss.com was up for bidding, and the tag was around $55.000.
