Black is not Green?

Posted by Simon on August 23rd, 2007 in Uncategorized | 1 Comment

Are black backgrounds environmental friendly?

Blackle and SaveAndSearch are two of a few sites that run on the idea that surfing with a black background on websites will save energy and therefore be good for the environment. But unfortunately surfing black isn’t really that green.

LCD monitors are built with a light behind the screen that is always on. So when you show a white page you just let the light shine through the screen. If you show a black page on the other hand the LCD light is completely blocked and it requires more energy to shine through.

According to Google “displaying black may actually increase energy usage”.

If you are interested in saving energy and helping the environment there are better and more efficient ways than using black or white backgrounds when you surf or search the web. You can for example change to a green web host or does some green action work right now.

Problems!

Posted by Simon on June 29th, 2007 in Uncategorized | 2 Comments

As you might or might not see we are having some problems here at Easy Webbers.

It seems that there is an error in the database file that this Wordpress blog use.

Why does this always happen when you don’t have the time to fix it… I will see what I can do. Hopefully everything will be working as it should at the beginning of next week. If this blog goes offline this weekend you guys and girls know why.

Everything should work now. :)

Hi everyone!

Acorn HostAfter a few weeks of downtimes and DNS errors on my old host I decided this weekend to move to brand new host. All pages, sites and forums are now moved over to the new host. Easy Webbers should be working as it should. If not please send me a email or post a comment here.

Some of you might have seen my previous posts (before Easy Webbers was up and runnning properly) that I was going to move to a host that is powered by green energy. If or if not let me tell you again (bragging is so fun). Easy Webbers new host is Acorn Host, that I have written about in the past. Acorn Host uses 100% renewable energy resources to power their servers. That means Easy Webbers is helping out in the fight against global warming. So there you go, another reason to visit Easy Webbers more often. :)
I will dedicate this post to updates about the move:

Update 1: Some of the posts seems a bit weird, I need to fix that.
Update 2: All images in the blog posts are working.

MSN+Im making a difference

If you use the Windows Instant Messenger this is something for you. A few of my contacts in MSN Messenger have had a small “Im” icon next to their name but it wasn’t until very recently I started to wonder what that icon was all about. It seems that it is not, what I thought from the beginning, a little silly username-custom-thingy. In fact it was something much better.

Evidently MSN is doing this to help organizations that are “dedicated to social causes”, such as the American Red Cross, StopGlobalWarming.org, Sierra Club and many more. Confused? Let me try to explain how this work.

If you have Windows Live Messenger 8.1 (or higher) you go to im.live.com/Messenger/IM/Join where you can find a few small codes to instert next to your display name. The codes can for example be *9mil, *sierra, *help etc depending on which organization you want to support. After you have added this code next to your display name you will see this small icon (image: Image Hosted by ImageShack.us). Now for every time you start a conversation with anyone a small portion of the advertising revenue Microsoft gets will be shared to the organisation you have chosen. Pretty cool!
