Fujitsu claims world’s most energy efficient server

Posted by Simon on July 17th, 2007 in Webhosting | No Comments

Primergy TX120

Fujitsu Siemens Computers says that their brand new tower server Primergy TX120 is the most energy efficient server in the world. Primergy TX120 is said to consume 40% less energy than conventional tower servers. The Primergy TX120 is also one-third the size and makes half the noise (producing 28dB while idling and 31dB in operation).

TX120 uses a redesigned heat pipe air cooling system. Although previous systems have used heat pipe cooling, reducing the size of the unit required a new component alignment strategy. In the TX120 all heat producing components, CPU, chipsets, etc, are strictly aligned along a linear heat pipe. Two small temperature controlled fans also sit either side of the pipe in a push-pull arrangement. Another benefit of the heat pipe is it enables the user to choose either vertical or horizontal server installation. Unlike water cooling used in some small servers, heat pipe provides similar quiet operation, requires fewer components, and with no potential leakage problems is more reliable.

According to Fujitsu Siemens Computers the use of TX120 instead of a larger tower server can reduce CO2 emissions by the equivalent of planting 31 cedar trees per year.

Ilisys: Carbon Neutral Hosting

I really like companies like Ilisys who at least try to do their part in the fight against global warming. Ilisys is a carbon neutral ISP located in Australia.

They use renewable wind and solar sources to power their data centre and headquarters.

Ilisys uses more than 200,000 KWh of electricity each year, serving websites and managing email for 18,000 Australian businesses. By choosing Natural Power, Ilisys is reducing greenhouse gas emissions and contributing to a healthier environment.

1 cent HostGator hosting (first month)

Posted by Josh on February 17th, 2007 in Webhosting | 2 Comments

Yes, this is possible, I just signed up for a account, and it worked!

If you want to get your 1 cent hosting from HostGator (first month only I believe), just follow the following steps.

  • Go to the shared hosting page and select the “Baby” package ($9.95 a month)
  • Continue to sign up, and when you have the option to enter a coupon code, enter “tophost” (with no quotations)
  • Finish, and it should only charge you 1 cent!

Again, this does work, as I have done it myself.

Web Hosting: How to Make the Right Choice

Posted by Guest Author on October 19th, 2006 in Webhosting | 1 Comment

There are several important steps to consider when choosing a web hosting company. It is important to carefully choose a company that is able to offer all the features required by a Webmaster.Do not be tempted in selecting a company purely on the price. Today hosting is cheap and the competition is strong to attract new customers.

Do some research with independent reviews of hosting companies you are interested in. See what type of reviews they have, paying special attention to their performance. How much time were they off the air off for example? Look for their uptime figures. Do a comparison with several companies.

How easy is it to get support from them? Many web hosting companies now have instant messenger service, which can offer instant answers to simple problems as well as email, phone, and fax, but normally receiving answers from these methods will be slower.

Web Hosting - 10 Things To Avoid

Posted by Guest Author on August 27th, 2006 in Webhosting | 2 Comments

Our guest author this friday is Greg Cesar. He is a successful Internet marketer, web designer and web hosting provider with over 10 years’ experience. He specializes in providing innovative web hosting and internet marketing services that help business owners make more money online.

Very Cheap Pricing
Ok, here’s the rub: there are thousands of web hosting companies out there that have very low prices. The fact is that a cheap web hosting company offering very low rates is doing this for a reason. And the reason is that they are doing a tremendous amount of volume.

To a cheap web hosting company, you are just a number, especially if you are a small business. Here’s something else to consider: How many other websites will you be sharing your IP address with? You’ve heard of Spammers, haven’t you? Well, aggressive spammers generally go with the cheapest web hosting package they can find. Why? Because they know that they only plan to be in business for a certain amount of time. Did you know that spamming can get your site banned by the Search Engines and your ISP? In short, when you share your IP address with, say, 1000’s of other businesses, and one of these businesses happens to be a spammer, the entire IP address can, and most often will, be banned by the Search Engines. Then it’s goodbye, business. You probably won’t even know what has happened to make your traffic drop so dramatically. On top of all of this, a very cheap web hosting company will generally have very slow servers and common services will be denied because there is not enough bandwidth. You will be doing yourself and your business a tremendous disservice by going with a cheap web hosting company.

Some Webhosting Tips

Posted by Simon on August 27th, 2006 in Opinion, Webhosting | 2 Comments

Webhosting is a business that provides servers or computers for your website to actually reside in. It allows users all over the world to be able to access your website. There are a number of ways you can avail of webhosting. One of the methods is to do webhosting on your own. This method allows you to have total control over your website and be able to avail of all hosting services you require. The biggest drawback for this hosting method is it is very expensive and very difficult. It requires a lot of technical skills to do web hosting. Unless you have the money and technical skills required, it is highly recommended that you avail of hosting services provided by reputable hosting providers rather than doing it on your own. But if you are determined, you can host your websites on a desktop computer. The disadvantage in doing this though is that all files and accounts on your personal computer can be exposed to security risks such as hackers. In order to prevent this you need to install costly software called firewall. Aside from that, the amount of time you need for webhosting leaves you little time to attend to other business.
